BURLINGTON TWP, N.J. — An off-duty correctional officer and a 53-year-old Wrightstown man were identified by police Tuesday as the two drivers killed when a pair of pickups collided Monday in Burlington County..
Chelsea Woods, 26, a correctional officer who lived in Pemberton Township, and Rogaciano Zecua-Zamora died in the 6:30 a.m. crash at the intersection of Route 68 and Monmouth Road (Route 537) in Springfield, according to a State Police spokesman.
A 45-year-old Wrightstown woman who was a passenger in Zecua-Zamora’s vehicle remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
Woods worked as a correctional officer at the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, which posted a note of condolence on its Facebook page.
“With great sadness, we share the passing of our sister in blue, Correctional Police Officer Chelsea Woods of New Jersey State Prison,” the post said. We are grateful for her service and together with her friends and family, mourn the loss of a dedicated colleague.”
Zecua-Zamora was driving south on Route 68 when he collided with Woods’ eastbound truck, State Police said. Woods’ vehicle struck a tree, while Zecua-Zamora was thrown from his vehicle after it overturned, police said.
Zecua-Zamora was pronounced dead at the scene. Woods was taken to Capital Health, where she was pronounced dead at 7:16 a.m.
There is a traffic light at the intersection. The crash remains under investigation.
