ALLEGANY COUNTY, Md. — Along with two other men, an inmate currently serving a life sentence inside the Western Correctional Institution has been indicted in a drone contraband smuggling plot.
Charles Westly Brooks, 43, is currently serving a life sentence for a murder conviction, according to the Baltimore Sun.
He and two other men arranged to have a drone drop a package of drugs, cell phones and other contraband into the facility, but the plot was foiled on Aug. 22 when investigators found Brooks’ accomplices setting up the drone outside the facility.
Thaddeus Casimir Shortz, 25, and Keith Brian Russell, 29, were charged and taken into custody. They have been indicted along with Brooks.
