Fla. sheriff’s office offering $10K signing bonus to COs, $5K for 911 dispatchers

Individuals who receive the bonus must maintain uninterrupted full-time employment with a Florida law enforcement agency for two consecutive years

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The state of Florida is giving $15 million in incentives for people to join law enforcement agencies.

On Monday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the state has issued more than 2,200 bonuses to new law enforcement recruits throughout the past year. As of now, a total of 668 law enforcement recruits from 48 states and two U.S. territories have made the move to Florida, WJAX reports.

For a limited time, the Jacksonville County Sheriff’s Office will be offering these bonuses:

  • Corrections officer: A $10,000 hiring bonus is available for corrections officer recruits. The sheriff’s office has a corrections class starting on Monday, September 11, 2023. Applications must be submitted by Wednesday, August 9, 2023.
  • Community service officer: Applicants for this position are eligible for a $5,000 hiring bonus.
  • Police emergency communications officer: Those applying for this vital civilian role are eligible for a $5,000 hiring bonus.

All applicants must be 18 years of age or older to apply. No experience is needed as paid training is provided by the agency.

Newly hired individuals who receive the bonus are required to maintain uninterrupted full-time employment with a Florida law enforcement agency for a minimum of two consecutive years. It is essential that there are no gaps in employment exceeding 15 calendar days within this timeframe.
