Intro: All too frequently we hear disturbing reports of prisoner escapes. Whether taking a prisoner for a doctor visit, dealing with a prisoner that is under the influence, or transporting them to trial and interrogations, they must be controlled. Stun-Cuff, part of Myers Enterprises, Inc., is committed to prisoner compliancy and officer safety.
Where did your company name originate from?
The company (Myers Enterprises, Inc.) is named after the owner/inventor of the Stun-Cuff Prisoner Compliance products.
What was the inspiration behind starting your company?
To reduce prisoner escapes during trials, transports, hospital runs, etc. Many of these incidents result in officer and civilian injuries or death.
Why do you believe your products are essential to the corrections/court security /prisoner transport community?
Here at Myers Enterprises, Inc., we like to say our devices turn bad boys into choir boys. Once the device has been explained, dry fired, and then applied to the individual, 99.9 percent of the time the prisoner is calm and complies with all orders. This allows officers to be professional in their duties.
What has been the biggest challenge your company has faced?
The biggest challenge has been getting the name out and convincing departments of the importance of the product. We have departments come back and tell us what a wonderful product it is - many use it daily without incident - and that is exactly what our goal is.
What makes your company unique?
From sales to repairs, everything is handled in-house. When a department has a question, we provide an answer on the spot. It does not take days or weeks to get a reply from us.
What do your customers like best about you and your products?
The wireless DataPort is a big plus. If there is ever a question regarding the use of the device, all information can be downloaded to a computer. A person has to have the code to remove any information permanently from the unit and that is normally kept by command staff. The 100yard range is another feature that has been well-received; everyone knows how long a football field is. The device can be applied to the wrist or ankle - making it excellent for jury trials - and the unit can be removed from the prisoner using a standard hand cuff key.
What is the most rewarding part of serving the law enforcement community?
It is always good to get a report back that a prisoner who had been threatening judges and law enforcement lives sat and complied without question once the Stun-Cuff was applied. That’s rewarding!
