Safariland™, a BAE Systems line of business, announced today the introduction of the PROTECH® Body Bunker® Breacher Type IIIA shield. The shield was developed to meet the ballistic needs of entry teams in scenarios using explosives. The shield and viewport have been independently tested against 17 gr. fragmentation with a V50 of 2,078 feet per second (fps) and to defeat the following handgun rounds:

• .357 SIG 125 gr. TMJ – 5 Impacts
The Body Bunker Breacher shield offers the performance you can expect from a PROTECH Type IIIA ballistic shield with features to address explosive entries The adjustable helmet forehead padding system and horizontal foot brace provide the shield operator with shield stabilization during explosive blasts. The horizontal ambidextrous handle allows the operator’s arm to be kept in a strong-arm position when carrying the shield which distributes the weight of the shield over the entire area. The strapping system on the body side of the shield provides multiple-position carrying options as well as additional standoff protection against backface deformation.
The Breacher Shield is made of 100 percent uni-directional polyethylene material with an aluminum alloy outer skin to protect the ballistic properties of the shield and provide added resistance to fragmentation. The shield measures 31” x 48” in size, weighs 31 pounds and offers 1,488 in2 (total area) of ballistic coverage. The innovative, multi-layered 4” x 16” viewport incorporates an acrylic/polycarbonate laminate composite to offer multi-hit and fragmentation protection. The curved design of the viewport provides the operator with peripheral vision and overall improved visibility and includes overlapping ballistics to reduce the potential of penetration.
