Desert Waters: Mental Health for Corrections Officers

In this episode of Roll Call, Kenzie Koch interviews Caterina Spinaris, Ph.D., LPC, about how Desert Waters Correctional Outreach helps correctional officers and their families. It became evident to Caterina that staff health and functioning could be harmed due to: repeated exposure to work-related incidents of violence, injury and death; mistrust of and conflict with other employees; a culture of “toughness;” understaffing; and a negative public image.
