RICHMOND, Va. — The Virginia Department of Corrections will begin to roll out GPS monitoring with voice biometrics for at least 16,000 offenders after signing a contract with identity firm Track Group.
Planet Biometrics reports that the DOC will use the biometric voice verification technology to identify and monitor the offenders.
“The result will provide increased safety for the community by improving the management of offenders, while enhancing rehabilitation outcomes,” Harold Clarke, Director of the Va. DOC, said.
While which Track Group device the DOC was purchasing was not announced the group does offer the ReliAlert XC3, which is an ankle bracelet that allows offenders to communicate with agencies directly.
