BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A fight turned into a riot involving more than 100 inmates Tuesday at a California prison.
Officials said the fight began between four inmates in the recreational yard at Kern Valley State Prison, but sparked a riot involving 125 inmates, BakersfieldNow.com reported.
Officers deployed chemical agents and direct-impact rounds to control the riot in the yard.
Another disturbance occurred inside a housing unit. The incident involving six inmates was stopped after COs fired less lethal rounds.
According to the news station, seven makeshift weapons were confiscated after the riots. No correctional staff were injured. Five inmates were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation into the incident has been launched.
