LANSING, Mich. — Plans for boosting security at four prisons in Michigan were already in place before inmate Michael David Elliot busted out.
The DOC is proposing a three-million dollar overhau, according to WKZO, which would improve lighting, fencing and camera coverage at four prisons, including the Ionia facility where Elliot escaped.
“None of these projects were the result of, or accelerated because of the escape,” said Russ Marlan, a Corrections Department spokesman.
Contracts for the security work are set to be approved today by a State Administrative Board committee, then will require approval from the full State Administrative Board on March 25, according to the Lansing State Journal.
