SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — An inmate being transported by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department kicked out the patrol car’s window and exited the vehicle as it drove on the 5 Freeway in the Newhall area in Santa Clarita.

After falling out of the window and onto the freeway the handcuffed inmate was detained by a deputy.

The inmate was being transported on December 31 to a hospital from the North County Correctional Facility for injury treatment, KTLA reported.

A good Samaritan also stopped to help restrain the prisoner. Once the inmate was secured, he was placed inside the patrol car and transported to the hospital.

KABC reported no one was injured.
