RIKERS ISLAND, N.Y. — The Otis Bantum Correctional Center is on lockdown after a Rikers Island inmate slashed a corrections officer in the face after another inmate apparently lured him to his cell.
A source told PIX11 the CO was securing cells when an inmate came over and lured him to a cell down the hall. As the officer stood at the front of the cell, the inmate reached through the tray slot and slashed him with a sharp object.
The officer suffered a laceration to the left side of his face.
The weapon was not recovered at the scene, the source told PIX11.
The facility was placed under lockdown as officials searched cells for weapons.
