This week’s episode centers on correctional officer fatigue and suicide; guest Caterina Spinaris of the Desert Waters Correctional Outreach speaks with hose Anthony Gangi on how to uphold the wellbeing of correctional staff and their families.
“This isn’t like working at McDonald’s or the bank,” Spinaris said. “This is different. This is like going into a mini-warzone, in some cases.” She advises that the public needs to be better informed about corrections, and that better support needs to be in place for those who patrol behind the walls of our prisons and jails.
They talk about the support family units can offer, why correctional officers should seek out professional help and how administrators can create a better environment to help their staff.
