EASTON, Pa. — A Northampton County Prison inmate who assaulted a guard — again — was ordered Tuesday to serve one to two years in jail and stay on his mental-health medications.

Robert G. Salley of Easton pleaded guilty to aggravated assault for punching a corrections officer in November; the guard suffered a cut to his face and a large bruise to his left eye.

It marked the second recent conviction of Salley for misbehavior inside the Easton lockup. In May 2015, Salley pleaded guilty to throwing feces at a guard, who had come to his cell to investigate a puddle of urine in front of it.

Salley, who turned 28 on Tuesday, reported in court records that he has schizoaffective disorder, hyperactivity and depression. Under Senior Judge Leonard Zito’s sentence, he must comply with his mental-health treatment.

According to court records:

Corrections officer James Ricker was working in the prison’s intake unit on Nov. 6 when Salley punched him in the jaw. As he attempted to restrain Salley, Ricker reported, they both fell onto a set of concrete steps, causing his black eye and the cut to his face.

Ricker said he was punched once, but another guard claimed she saw Salley hit him “approximately 10 to 15 times.”

In his prior case, Salley received a 3-to-18-month sentence after pleading guilty to aggravated harassment by a prisoner.

In it, Salley was jailed on drug charges on Oct. 9, 2014, when he threw a “piece of fecal matter” at corrections officer Charles Baker, hitting him on the side of the neck, authorities said.
