COLTON, Calif. — An off-duty California Department of Corrections officer was shot and severely wounded at a Colton gas station by someone who had asked him directions moments before the attack.
The gunfire erupted about 8:45 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at a Shell station along the 2700 block of Iowa Avenue, just east of Interstate 215.
Police quickly loaded the man in a patrol car and took him to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, where he underwent emergency surgery, said Lt. Chuck deDianous. The victim’s name was not released.
