ROMULUS — Details are unclear in a prison incident that left multiple corrections officers injured at the Five Points Correctional Facility in Seneca County.
According to 9wsyr.com, the officer’s union claims 16 were injured, while prison officials say only 6 were injured.
The officers were attempting to break up a fight between four or five inmates when 25 more inmates joined the melee. A tower officer threw canisters of gas into the fight to break it up, after which inmates complied with orders to lay on the ground.
No weapons were found on the prisoners.
Only two officers received treatment out of those who were taken to a local hospital. A total of eight inmates were moved to other facilities.
The prison is currently in a period of lockdown that will last five days.
