MARCY, N.Y. — Three Mid-State Correctional Facility officers are recovering from injuries after an inmate refused orders and attacked them.
Inmate Timothy Prude was transferred to the frisk room of a special housing unit to exchange his clothing on Feb. 23, The Observer-Dispatch reported.
The CO removed Prude’s restraints and gave orders, which Prude refused. Officials said Prude then punched the officer with “a closed fist.”
“The officer was able to grab the inmate but lost his balance and fell to the floor with the inmate on top of him,” a press release said. “The officer ordered the inmate to stop the attack. Two additional officers responded to the room. After a brief struggle, the two officers were able to get the inmate in restraints.”
The three officers were transported to a local hospital where they were treated for minor injuries. They remain on duty.
Prude was removed and placed in a holding cell, according to the publication.
