OKEECHOBEE, Fla. — A report from Okeechobee Correctional institute described the injuries suffered by a correctional officer after he was attacked by an inmate.
According to Florida Newszap, Corrections Officer Michael Valentino suffered a broken eye socket, two black eyes and cuts to the face after being attacked by inmate Willie Bonner while conducting cell searches.
The incident occurred when Valentino moved Bonner to the sally port and attempted to cuff him. Bonner fought back and struck the side of the officer’s head with his closed fist, and continued to strike the officer after he had fallen to the floor.
Valentino attempted to use chemical agents on Bonner; Bonner grabbed the can and attempted to use them on the officer, but instead struck him with the can when he could not figure out how to use them.
Officer Valentino was transported to Raulerson Hospital. Bonner was charged with aggravated battery on correctional staff.
Willie Bonner is serving a life sentence for second degree murder in connection with a 998 Miami-Dade case.
