CLAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A St. Clair County court officer was shot and killed while serving an eviction notice, FOX2 Detroit reports.
It happened on Dec. 28 as Robert Silver approached 49-year-old Michael Stickler’s home to serve the notice, according to the report.
Silver had not been heard from for several hours. Officers with the Clay Township Police Department responded to Stickler’s house and found Silver with gunshot wounds. Stickler then barricaded himself in the house, leading to a short standoff between Stickler and officers.
Stickler was eventually taken into custody and charged with murder, the report states.
Silver’s mother and sister had recently died in a house fire, FOX2 Detroit reported. Silver was supposed to be attending their celebration of life service on the day he was killed.
Silver had served with the St. Clair County 72nd District Court for 35 years.
