This week’s photo features the Virginia Department of Correction’s K-9s — Anette, Chulligan, Cody, Hondo, PI, Elvis, Vico and Tosca — who will soon be outfitted with bullet and stab protective vests, thanks to a donation from the nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

Each vest is custom-fitted, U.S.-made and NIJ-certified, offering potentially life-saving protection for these dedicated four-legged officers. The vests are sponsored by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. and will feature the embroidered message: “In memory of K9 Rivan, Virginia DOC, EOW 4-2-24.”

Founded in 2009, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization with a mission to provide protective vests and resources to law enforcement K-9s across the United States. To date, the organization has supplied over 5,837 protective vests in all 50 states, valued at more than $6.9 million.

Donations of any amount are accepted, with a $985 contribution fully funding one vest. For more information about Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., to make a donation, or to volunteer, visit www.vik9s.org or call 508-824-6978. Contributions may also be mailed to:
