SMYRNA, Del. — The warden of the prison where inmates rioted and killed Sgt. Steven Floyd in February has been reassigned.

State officials did not say if James T. Vaughn Correctional Center Warden David Pierce was removed from the position, The News Journal reported.

The department did not publically announce that Pierce was reassigned, but posted a job opening for his position on the DOC’s employment website Saturday.

Pierce was placed on administrative leave following the inmate uprising on Feb. 1, the publication reported. He became warden in August 2013 after joining the corrections department in 1996. Officials did not confirm if he is still a DOC employee or if he remains on leave.

According to Delmarva Public Radio, Deputy Warden Phil Parker will take over as acting warden.
