DURHAM, N.C. — A high-ranking gang member is accused of impregnating two Durham County jail employees, WRAL reports.
During a bond hearing on Nov. 26, prosecutors said Darrius Tyson admitted to being the highest-ranking Blood gang member in North Carolina, according to WRAL. Tyson is being held on charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping and burglary in connection to the 2022 disappearance of a man.
Prosecutors allege that Tyson leveraged his influence to bring sex and drugs into the Durham County jail and used an illegal cellphone to arrange drug deals outside the facility.
A now-former Durham County detention sergeant and a contracted nurse at the jail were charged with felony offenses for engaging in sexual relations with an inmate. Assistant District Attorney Mary Jude Darrow claims Tyson fathered children with both women.
Another now-former detention sergeant was also charged after she allegedly provided Tyson with a cellphone, WRAL reports.
