NEWARK, Ohio — Two guards and five inmates in the Licking County Jail were sent to the hospital Sunday by a suspected exposure to fentanyl, according to the sheriff’s office.
Two inmates had a severe reaction to the exposure, authorities say. All have recovered well, however, and were expected to be treated and released at the hospital.
All other inmates from that area where the exposure occurred were isolated, authorities say. Decontamination of the area is underway.
Licking County sheriff’s detectives and Drug Task Force agents are investigating the origins of the suspected fentanyl.
