LINCOLN, Neb. — Authorities say a man who was killed and another who was injured at a Lincoln recycling plant were prison inmates on work release.
The Department of Correctional Services says 58-year-old Dennis Hines was pronounced dead at a Lincoln hospital after a concrete wall fell on him around 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
Another inmate, 46-year-old Jarrod Mittan, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and was expected to be released Friday.
Corrections officials say Hines and Mittan were working at Mid-America Recycling when a skid-steer loader made contact with a retaining wall and knocked it over onto Hines. Mittan was knocked out of the way.
Hines was serving six to 10 years for a drug conviction. Mittan is serving five to 12 years for theft and drug convictions.
A grand jury will investigate.
