COOK COUNTY, Ill. — Cook County sheriff’s officials said the extreme cold is forcing them to relocate the visitor entrance to the Cook County Jail.
Officials said the normal entrance for people visiting inmates or posting bond at Post 5, at 27th Street and California will be closed until further notice.
Visitors and people visiting inmates or posting bond who would normally enter the jail through Post 5 are being asked to enter through the Criminal Courts Building, 2650 S. California Avenue, according to the sheriff’s office.
The visitors will be provided with an alternate path to the jail, officials said.
Given the cold temperatures, Post 5, “no longer constitutes safe working conditions” for the sheriff’s employees, according to the office
The change primarily affects people intending to visit or post bond for inmates in Division, 1, 2, 3, and the Annex as well as Div. 5, 8, 14, 17 and Cermak Health Services, according to the the sheriff’s office.
