MERRIMACK COUNTY, N.H. — A minimum-security inmate walked away from a Merrimack County jail work detail Tuesday afternoon and still hadn’t been found yesterday, jail officials said.

Christopher Benson, 33, was in jail awaiting trial on charges of burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary and resisting arrest. He was arrested by the Concord police in February in connection with a 2010 burglary from the Lovering Volvo dealership on Manchester Street.

He walked away from work crew duties on the county complex in Boscawen about 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, and supervisors who noted his absence immediately reported it to the Department of Corrections, jail officials said. Corrections then notified the county sheriff’s department and nearby law enforcement agencies, officials said.

Benson is white, 5-foot-9 and 155 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes, officials said. He has several tattoos, including the words “Anita” and “RIP TK” on his arms.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest on felony-level escape charges.
