SAN LEANDRO, Calif. — A man who walked away from a correctional-center camp in Nevada County earlier this week has been arrested, authorities said.

Justin Tyquiengco was apprehended at a gas station about 12:15 p.m. Thursday without incident by agents with the State Department of Corrections’ special-service unit and fugitive-apprehensions team, according to a statement from the agency.

Tyquiengco, 22, walked away Sept. 18 from the California Correctional Center’s Washington Ridge Conservation Camp in Nevada City, more than 160 miles away. He had last been seen at the camp’s 3:30 a.m. count, but was found missing at 5:30 a.m. during another count.

CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety, CAL FIRE, law enforcement personnel, the California Highway Patrol and local law enforcement assisted in the search for Tyquiengco.

He originally came from Contra Costa County after a six-year sentence for second-degree robbery with use of a firearm, as well as an Alameda County one-year sentence to serve consecutively. Agents will now transfer him to a correctional center site in Susanville.

According to the department, 99 percent of all offenders who have left an adult institution, camp or community-based program without permission have been captured.
