COTTONWOOD — Two men who escaped from the North Idaho Correctional Institution in Cottonwood have been captured, said Jeff Ray, Idaho Department of Correction spokesman.

The sheriff’s office says Caleb Joe Thomas, 20, and Ridge Scott Dains, 21, were captured Monday near Walla Walla, Wash., while driving a stolen vehicle.

The Idaho Department of Correction activated its Correctional Emergency Response Team when the inmates were discovered missing Saturday morning shortly after midnight.

Department spokesman Jeff Ray says searchers found footprints in the snow leading away from the prison.

Thomas’ criminal record includes first degree arson and grand theft while Dains’ record includes a burglary conviction. Both will be returned to Idaho County where they could face charges related to their escape.
