BREMERTON, Wash. — Correctional officers with the Kitsap County Jail ran a month-long charity drive to collect household goods and clothing for the local YWCA.

The Central Kitsap Reporter reports that they were able to collect a couple hundred pounds of the sought-after items, including 500-600 diapers.

“I think it’s true with any law enforcement: make your community better as fast as you can,” said CO Scott Billingsley, who organized the drive with his wife, Shannon. “Everyone wins when you help kids.”

The drive pitted divisions of the local jail against each other to see who could donate the most. Winners received Starbucks gift cards.

The YWCA’s shelter houses women and children up to 90 days, and can only house 15 at a time. Regularly, they help about 100 people a month.
