This week, Anthony Gangi speaks with Kat Turner, a former TDOC employee turned advocate for the correctional officers of Tennessee.
A schedule and overtime change has sent the TDOC into chaos, forcing some officers to work 99 hours in 6 days and has led to a mass exodus of over 300 correctional officers from the prison system. This has left an influx of inexperienced correctional officers to handle the offenders in a quickly unbalanced and dangerous environment.
The result is a rise in accidents, illnesses, staff assaults, contraband, escape risks and increased violence among the inmate population.
