NEW BOSTON – The name of the correctional officer killed earlier this week inside a Texas prison has been released.
KGNS reports that Timothy Davison, 47, had been with the agency since December.
Davison was escorting inmate Billy Joel Tracy, 37, to his cell Wednesday morning at the Telford Unit near Texarkana when Tracy used an object to beat Davison. A source close to the investigation reported that the object was a “pry bar” tool that officers carry with them to unlock small metal tray openings in cell doors, according to KHOU.
Tracy is said to have slipped out of one of his restraints and grabbed the pry tool from Davison in order to beat him with it. This information has not been confirmed by the TDCJ, KHOU reports.
Davison was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Tracy has a lengthy history of violence toward officers. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
