AIKEN, S.C. — The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office needs new detention center officers and hopes to find them on Wednesday at a job fair held by Goodwill’s Job Connection.

The job fair will run from 1 to 4 p.m. at Aiken Goodwill Job Connection, 1015 Pine Log Road.

The fair is exclusively for recruitment of new detention center officers for the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, unlike most Job Connection career fairs, which feature multiple employers.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office will have personnel on site to interview applicants.

Applicants must be South Carolina residents with a valid state driver’s license showing they are at least 21 years old.

Detention officers must have a high school diploma, can have no criminal history and will make an annual salary of $26,957, according to Aiken County’s website.

Capt. Nick Gallam, who oversees the Aiken County detention center, said he’s looking to hire a dozen new officers.

He said he’s looking for honest candidates with good communication skills.

For more information about the job fair, call Goodwill Aiken Community Director Jennifer Hart at 803-649-7694, or email jhart@goodwillworks.org.

People who can’t make it to the job fair can still apply by stopping by the Aiken County detention center at 435 Wire Road or by visiting the County’s website at www.aikencountysc.gov.
