YOUNGSTOWN — A month-long hunger strike at the Ohio State Penitentiary has come to an end.
The SF Bay View reports that between 30 and 40 men had been refusing meals since March 16 to protest new restrictions placed on already severely limited recreation and programming for those in solitary confinement.
All but one of the men agreed on April 15 to suspend the hunger strike after a meeting with the warden, during which the warden agreed to lift some of the new restrictions.
The restrictions affected those classified in the highest security level, limiting their access to programming and recreation outside their cells.
