RENSSELAER, NY — The first female K9 officer for the Rensselaer Sheriff’s Office is celebrating 30 years of service on Monday.

K9 Deputy Sandy Blodgett was sworn in as a deputy in 1985 and utilized in corrections and highway patrol, reports News 10.

In 1988, she was appointed full time high way patrol and in 1989 became the first female K9 officer for the sheriff’s office.

For the past 13 years, Blodgett has been one of the leading trainers for the sheriff’s office and local law enforcement K9 teams throughout Albany’s Capital Region in police tracking and narcotic detection.
