NY correctional officer charged with attempted murder

The officer and victim were seen wrestling in the street before gunshots were fired; the cause of the fight is unknown at this time

NORWICH, NY – A New York State Department of Corrections officer has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting Sunday morning.

WBNG reports that Wayne Spratley, 33, was arraigned Sunday after allegedly shooting a man around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning. He is charged with attempted murder in the second degree.

Police say additional charges against Spratley are still pending.

Police responded Sunday morning to a call of a man holding a weapon; upon arrival, they heard gunshots.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, was shot in the abdomen. They are currently hospitalized and reported to be in critical condition.

“I got up and there were two people wrestling outside my bedroom window on the ground,” John Hildebrandt, an eyewitness, said. “The next thing I knew, I heard two gunshots and there you go.”
