CHEMUNG COUNTY, NY — A new Android app will provide citizens with the ability to see who’s in jail in Chemung County.

Sheriff Christopher Moss unveiled the new app on Monday, which is free to download according to the Star Gazette. It will allow users to look up registered sex offenders, receive emergency alerts, submit tips or look up and contact any division of the sheriff’s office.

"[App users] can check bookings in the Chemung County Jail. The app refreshes every 10 minutes and will show you age, weight, sex, height and charges against inmates,” Moss said.

“On the home screen you can get [alerts] of emergency situations. It will show missing and exploited children, and it has a warrant section. What’s nice about this mobile app is you can look at it on the go.”

Moss is hopeful that everyone with a smartphone will take advantage of the app. Information on Tioga and Broome counties is also available, with more counties to be added.

“We want to inform the public, and keep them involved in what the sheriff’s office is doing,” he said. “What’s neat about it is it’s at your fingertips now. It’s a benefit for individuals who want to stay in the know.”
