NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, Pa. — A correctional officer with the Northampton County prison was hospitalized Sunday after an inmate threw boiling water on him.

The Morning Call reports that the officer was scalded around dinnertime by a medium-security prisoner wielding a hot pot.

The facility allowed hot pots and microwaves in common areas, but following this incident they are now being removed.

The officer has been treated and released from a nearby hospital for his burns.

“I will pursue criminal charges to the fullest on these types of actions on officers or any members of my staff,” Daniel Keen, director of corrections, said in a statement.

The inmate responsible has been relocated to administrative segregation.

The incident is being reviewed so the facility can take steps to prevent such an incident from occurring again.
