QUEENSBURY — Proceeds from sales at the Warren County Jail commissary will go toward paying an annual fee of $40,000 for an online law library for inmates.
The Post Star reports that the jail switched to the LexisNexis-run online library after transporting inmates to and from the physical library at the Municipal Center strained manpower and overtime costs.
Concerns about the price tag of the online library were raised last year as the Sheriff’s Office debated agreeing to a new contract with LexisNexis.
The jail commissary takes it between $3,000 and $4,000 a month, which would be more than enough to pay for the LexisNexis subscription and still handle other jail expenses.
LexisNexis has also agreed to lower the cost for the jail’s use of its online library, going from $40,800 to $31,000.
