FRANKLIN, Ind. — A county jail inmate has died four days after swallowing toilet paper.
According to the Indy Star, the unnamed man died of asphyxiation due to a foreign object as discovered by an autopsy. His death was ruled a suicide by a local coroner.
The man was found unresponsive Tuesday in his cell, where he was housed alone.
He had “swallowed an unknown amount of toilet paper in an apparent suicide attempt,” according to an incident report.
The inmate was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died Saturday. He had been at the jail since April 29 on a felony drug-dealing charge.
