MIAMI — The Miami-Dade police officer accused of shooting at a corrections officer during an alleged road rage incident is under arrest.
CBS News reports that Jonathan Lang is accused of shooting at corrections officer Georgina Illa while he was off duty. He turned himself in on Tuesday on charges of firearm discharged from a vehicle, aggravated assault with a firearm and tampering with physical evidence.
His bond is set at $17,500.
Illa said she was driving on the Florida Turnpike when she was cut off by another vehicle; after flashing her high beams at the car, she saw two individuals, including Lang. She said Lang opened fire on her.
Lang denied having a weapon on him, but Illa’s vehicle had bullet holes going through the tail light and into the passenger seat.
In August 2014, someone broke into the officer’s impounded vehicle and stole evidence pertaining to the incident. Authorities believe it may have been the gun used in the incident.
