WESTPHALIA TWP., Mich. – A former prisoner from the Michigan Reformatory stalked and eventually broke into the residence of a female correctional officer, assaulting someone inside while armed with a knife.

WOODTV reports that a man was able to disarm James Kenny before he ran from the scene. He was later arrested after a manhunt.

James Kenny served time on a 2008 larceny by conversion conviction at the Michigan Reformatory, though he has also served three other sentences with the MDOC for breaking and entering.

The officer whose home Kenny broke into had filed a restraining order against Kenny, claiming he stalked her and threatened to kill or physically harm her. The officer’s name has not been released.

Kenny accused the officer of fraudulent behavior and claimed she was facing criminal charges in a letter written to the officer’s father, who Kenny mistook for her ex-husband.

He attempted to get the restraining order removed but was denied.

Kenny then surveyed the officer’s house before ultimately entering the home and attacking a unnamed man.

In court, Kenny was arraigned on Monday wearing an AC/DC shirt and saying he was “a little baffled” about the charges leveled against him.
