EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. — A Missouri man has been ordered to spend four years and four months in federal prison for robbing a southern Illinois bank while clad in a wig, polka dot dress and sunglasses.
Fifty-year-old Arnell Edwards was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis. The St. Louis man was also ordered to spend three years on post-prison supervised release.
Edwards pleaded guilty in November to one count of bank robbery.
Authorities say that on Sept. 6, Edwards entered the US Bank branch in New Athens wearing the dress and wig and ordered the teller to give him cash from her drawer.
He fled with an unspecified amount of money, discarding his clothing in a bush before entering a nearby apartment. Edwards surrendered after police converged on the building.
