MONTGOMERY COUNTY — A Montgomery County prison guard who goes by the nickname “Bam Bam” won the Pennsylvania’s Strongest Man title at the Team Ironmill competition this month.
Officer Eddie Bamberger, 26, of Telford, won not only the heavyweight category (300+ pounds), but also the overall title. To do so, he performed the following feats:
- In 60 seconds, he lifted a 240-pound keg from the ground to over his head seven times.
- He endured 37 seconds in a “Hercules Hold” with 160 pound weights.
- In 75 seconds, he heaved a 330-pound stone to chest level five times.
- In 60 seconds, he pulled a 15,000-pound fire truck nearly 75 feet. From a dead stop. Uphill the last 15 feet.
- And in 60 seconds, he dead-lifted a car 10 times.
Not bad for an amateur, eh? Next year, Bamberger hopes to join the professional circuit, “the guys you see on ESPN.” This is his fifth strong man competition, and with each his placement his risen, from No. 5 to Top 3 to No. 1.
