WATERLOO — A Black Hawk County Sheriff’s deputy was hospitalized after being assaulted by a jail inmate Saturday.
The female deputy, who was not identified, was working in the jail housing housing area around 9 a.m. when she was physically assaulted by inmate John Delroy Young, according to the sheriff’s office.
Young, 38, of Waterloo, was charged with willful injury and assault on a peace officer, both felonies. He was in jail on charges of burglary, theft and credit card fraud from incidents in December.
No information on the deputy’s condition has been released.
