SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Nine indicted for the murder of Lt. Osvaldo Albarati could face the death penalty.
FOX News reports that Albarati’s murder was the first of a U.S. federal agent in Puerto Rico.
The FBI stated that the defendants planned the murder after the officer confiscated cell phones and other contraband.
Puerto Rico abolished the death penalty in 1929, but federal authorities could impose the punishment since the island is a U.S. commonwealth.
