BRISTOL, Tenn. — A correctional sergeant who thwarted an armed robbery at a gas station has been honored for her actions, WCYB reports.
Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Samantha Davis stopped at the gas station before going to work on March 4 when she walked into the convenience store and came face-to-face with the armed suspect. She then held the suspect at gunpoint while employees helped Davis with cuffing the suspect, the Bristol Police Department said.
During a Bristol city council meeting on April 2, officials with the Bristol Police Department honored Davis with a Certificate of Recognition, saying that her actions that day showed her selfless dedication to the job.
“Despite the inherent danger of the situation, Sgt. Davis maintained her composure and ensured the safety of all involved. Her quick actions were instrumental in bringing the situation under control. Sgt. Samantha Davis’s selfless dedication to the public safety and her performance under pressure exemplify the highest standards of law enforcement,” said Chief Matt Austin.
Davis said she wasn’t expecting to be honored because she was doing her duty, but added that it was nice to be recognized.
“I wasn’t expecting anything and I really did it because it’s my job, it’s my duty, it’s what I signed up for, to serve and protect the community,” Davis said.
