JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood says he will ask legislators to set an alternative form of execution in case the state is blocked from doing lethal injections.
He says that could include use of nitrogen gas, electrocution or firing squad.
Hood also says Wednesday that he wants to block public access to names of people who provide execution drugs or who are on the execution team.
The proposals are on a list of requests the fourth-term Democratic attorney general is making this legislative session.
Hood says he’s also asking for tighter finance laws to require details about campaigns’ credit-card purchases.
He wants a program to help inmates learn job skills as they leave prison.
He also wants the attorney general’s office to get wiretapping power to investigate white-collar crime.
