CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A Florida man nicknamed the “Hamburglar” was arrested after authorities say McDonald’s employees recognized him from surveillance footage of a recent break-in.
Cape Coral police said in a news release Tuesday that a man broke into the fast-food restaurant in the early morning hours of Aug. 9. The building’s security system was damaged, but nothing appeared to be taken.
Authorities say 43-year-old John Gampa showed up in the drive-thru as a customer a few days later, and employees recognized him as the suspected thief. Police say Gampa tried to flee when they arrived at his house Monday, but an officer shot him with a stun gun.
Gampa, already on probation for robbery, was charged with burglary and resisting an officer without violence.
He was being held on $35,000 bail. Jail records didn’t list an attorney.
