CARRIZOZO, NM — Two inmates at Lincoln County Detention Center (LCDC)have been charged with attempting to bribe corrections officers.
Lincoln County Undersheriff Robert Shepperd announced Monday afternoon that the charges are a result of a two-month investigation into an attempt by inmates to bribe officers to bring drugs, cellular telephones and other contraband into the detention center.
Pete Contreras, 20 of Roswell, and Magan M. Mays, 25, of Ruidoso, have been charged with attempted bribery, conspiracy to commit bribery and conspiracy to bring contraband into a jail, all felonies. Contreras and Mays were inmates at LCDC at the time of the investigation.
Arrest warrants were issued by Carrizozo Magistrate Court Judge Martha Proctor Monday and served at LCDC.
Proctor set the bond for Contreras and Mays at $20,000 each, pending arraignment and preliminary hearing.
