BOSTON — A Boston man who set his ex-girlfriend’s house on fire after she refused to get back together with him has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said 36-year-old Troy Poindexter was sentenced in state court Friday.

Conley said Poindexter set fire to a porch at his girlfriend’s home in September 2013, after he sent a series of messages to her in a failed attempt to restart their relationship.

Conley said the woman discovered the fire and Pointdexter at her home when she returned from work, and she alerted neighbors in the same building. Four children ages 6 to 15 were among those who escaped to safety.

Poindexter pleaded guilty to attempted murder, arson and other charges. Messages were left for his public defenders.
