Former federal corrections officer in Va gets probation

Corrections officer also slapped with a huge fine for providing contraband to inmates and soliciting violent crimes

RICHMOND, Va. -- A former federal corrections officer in Virginia will serve two years of home confinement and five years of probation for providing contraband to inmates and soliciting violent crimes.

U.S. District Judge Robert Payne also fined 50-year-old Kevin John Erickson of Chesterfield County $10,000 Friday.

The sentencing guideline range was 46 to 57 months in prison. However, Payne said he was troubled that the Bureau of Prisons could not guarantee that Erickson would receive appropriate treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder resulting from his military service in Iraq. He also said Erickson posed no danger to the public.
